I agree with you completely. I went into this movie with very diminished expectations, I was convinced there was no way it could live up to the hype. I was positive that people were bending over backwards to praise Ledger’s performance out of a never-criticize-the-dead kind of mentality. I was wrong, totally wrong. Ledger is the stand out performance in the movie, and would consistently pull me back, when petty annoyances like Bale’s forced baritone started to distract me. Maybe not the greatest movie I’ve ever seen but by far the best movie I saw this year. I generally hate paying movie theater prices, but a friend suggested it, and at a time when I really need a bit of an escape, and it was worth every penny. So much so in fact I can’t wait to go see it again at our local IMAX as soon as they get it. As was said in the review it’s not for children, for any fan of action movies though this one doesn’t disappoint.

This is an awesome review. I haven't seen the movie yet (budget concerns) but I can't wait to see it. This review just renforces the need to see.

Oh yeah, its a must buy for the DVD release! After I got back from watching it (we managed a midnight showing which was so much fun!) I could only manage a three word review:

Believe the hype.

It is THAT good. Another great 'comic book' movie this year was Iron Man, but The Dark Knight simply blows it away in terms of maturity, realism, and wide reaching appeal. Don't get me wrong, Iron Man was the best comic book movie ever, but The Dark Knight is the best MOVIE ever. Well, maybe not EVER ever, but pretty close.

I think I'm rambling again...

I was so impressed with Heath Ledger. I really didn't buy the hype that it was post-humous-Oscar-worthy, but now I do. It's terrific. I'd definitely recommend watching this in theater since they took the time to film a lot of the scenes in IMAX. I too reviewed this film too...http://bitchinfilmreviews.com/?p=59

The movie was a great movie! I've seen it a few times myself in the cinema's and love it. A great and last movie that Heath Ledger started in as well.

Wow! I was thinking that I would just catch this one when it came out on dvd, but now that I've read your review I'm thinking it might be best if I actually try to get to the theater. Thanks for the great review and for participating in the carnival.
