I just found out that one of my best friends from high school just had a baby boy, prematurely. Well, in July actually. I ‘keep track’ of him and his family through myspace, but that’s not really accurate as I check myspace approximately five times a year.
Sam was born via c-section on July 16th. He was extremely early (about 9 and a half weeks if my math is correct, so he was born at 30 weeks?) and is still in the NICU, but doing progressively better every day. He is incredibly precious, and his proud papa Frank has put up a blog for Sam – The Sam Experience. It ‘is meant to chronicle the adventures of Sam as he gets better, comes home and grows up.’
My prayers are with them, even if I am soooo late to the party. Thankfully, God has been keeping care of them anyway!

Closer to 30 weeks, I think, but he was small even for 30 weeks. Yup, Frank and Tammy are amazing. Can you even imagine going through everything they’ve gone through these last 3 weeks?

I can’t imagine… I know how hard it was for us to have Owen under the billirubin lights at the hospital for a few days. I don’t want to think about weeks and weeks!
Yeah, 30 weeks sounds more correct to me now, I messed up my mental math.

So part of me fears it’s almost vanity to comment on a post about a blog you write even if you do it in the voice of another person. Setting that aside though, I’m glad you stumbled across the news, and sorry I don’t do a better job at keeping my contacts up-to-date so I could have emailed to let you know, but enough of that too.
I’m glad to see that you and yours are doing well. I often think I should get in touch with you and see what you’re up to, but it often dies at that sadly. It’s overwhelming exciting and scary to be a new father so browsing through the first few pages of your blog have been comforting. It’s nice to read someone else’s thoughts on the subject. You know as a mom not a dad that would be weird.
As for the gestational age question according to Kaiser’s math he was 30 weeks 3 days when he was born, but Tammy’s ovulation was a bit unpredictable (it’s ok to talk about that right, I never know what’s considered too private) so we’re not really sure. His size was more comparable to that of a baby at about 26 – 28 weeks though because he was IUGR (in utero growth restricted). Part of why they took him early.

Well, I don’t think its vanity at all to comment about a post about a blog that you write.
And don’t worry about the ‘not keeping contacts up to date’ bit, I’m as much at fault for that one!
I’m glad Sam is continuing to do well, all things considered. He really is precious. Owen was only 5 lbs, 12 oz when he was born and I felt like he was incredibly tiny, so I can’t imagine what it must feel like to see your son small enough to fit in your hand. Much love and many prayers are heading out of our house towards yours.
(and yes, its okay to talk about ovulation, as long as you don’t talk about it with the ‘guys’ lol!)
